If your company is configured with the SwipeSimple Register software package, you will have access to create Item-Level Taxes. Not sure what software package is on your account? Contact your Merchant Service Provider.
Item-Level Taxes allow you to specify tax behavior for each item in your Item Catalog. Quick Items are also taxable, but first must be enabled in Company Settings.
Adding tax to items on the web
To add tax to items from SwipeSimple Web:
- Log in to your SwipeSimple account from swipesimple.com
- Click on the Item Catalog side menu option
- From the table, click on the Item Name to edit an existing item
- To add a new item, click on Add New Item
You can choose between three tax settings for each item:
- Non-Taxable – Tax will not be applied to the item.
- Prompt for Tax – SwipeSimple will prompt you to select a tax rate when you add the item to the cart during a sale.
- Taxable (shown above) – Tax will automatically be applied to the item during a sale. You can add more than one tax rate to a single item when you configure the item as Taxable.
You can also edit the tax for multiple items at once from your Item Catalog:
- Click on the Item Catalog side menu option
- Select the Items you want to bulk edit by checking the box on next to the Item Name
- Click on Edit "#" Items
You will be able to add specific tax rates to multiple items at once by checking Taxable in the pop-up box.
Add Tax to items during a sale
If an item's tax setting is set to Prompt for Tax, SwipeSimple will prompt you to choose a relevant tax rate when adding the item to the cart during a sale.
You can also edit the tax rate by tapping on the item once it is in the cart. Note: this is only true for items that are set to Prompt for Tax.
When you add an item to a sale that is configured as Taxable, SwipeSimple will add the item to the cart with the relevant tax rate(s) applied.
If you add an item to a sale that is configured as Non-Taxable, there will be no tax applied to that item and you will not be prompted to add a tax rate.
