Terminal Management FAQ

Does the device need to be powered on to perform an update?

Yes, for the update to be successful, the terminal should be powered on and with the screen on. If you force the update it will not matter if the app is actually present on the screen or running in the background as the force update will force the app into the background and close it to allow the update to go through.

How do I know what versions of SwipeSimple and BroadPOS to install?

You can find the most recent recommended versions for SwipeSimple and BroadPOS here.

Should I use the Retail.zip or the Restaurant.zip template when pushing out a BroadPOS update?

The preferred template is the Restaurant.zip template. Please note that merchants cannot accept tips if the Retail.zip template is used.

How do I know if a terminal received the update?

If you pushed the update to a single device, by going to Terminal Management > Terminal record > Push task you can check on the latest app that was pushed. If the task is still pending, the record of it will be found from this tab.

If you pushed the update as a group, by  going to Group Management > Push Task you can click on the latest app that was pushed. This will show a status of  Success / Pending / Failed and a count for each one. Clicking on each status brings up which terminals belong to which status.

What does “App downloaded, pending install” mean?

This happens when the app is pushed, if the device is on but the screen is turned off. In order to resolve, the merchant will need to to power on their device’s screen and the app should automatically install. This might take anywhere from 5-10 seconds.

There may be instances where if the screen isn’t turned on in a certain amount of time the install will fail.  In these cases, cancel the push task and retry.
