Customers on Mobile - Basic Customer Workflows

SwipeSimple automatically creates and matches customer profiles for every card transaction processed on a mobile device, and allows merchants to view or update customer details from the Transaction Details screen. This article covers these basic customer workflows. For steps on saving and charging a stored card, see Customers on Mobile - Processing Card on File Transactions.

Automatic Customer Creation

SwipeSimple automatically creates a customer profile for every card transaction. If the transaction includes a cardholder name, SwipeSimple assigns that name to the profile. If no cardholder name is available, SwipeSimple assigns the customer a placeholder name.

Recognizing Returning Customers

When a merchant runs the same card again, SwipeSimple recognizes the card and applies the new transaction to the existing customer profile instead of creating a duplicate. Once a merchant adds contact information to a customer profile, SwipeSimple carries that information forward and populates it automatically on receipts for future transactions made with the same card.

Naming a Customer from Transaction Details

A merchant can name a customer or update customer details only from the Transaction Details screen. This screen is also where a merchant can confirm which existing customer profile a transaction has been matched to.

How to add or update a customer from Transaction Details:

  • From the transaction results screen, tap Details.
  • Tap the Customer name.
  • Enter or update the customer's name, phone number, email, and address.
  • Tap Save.

Selecting a Customer at the Start of a Sale

Please note: The option to select a customer before checkout, from the top of a sale, is available only when a merchant processes the transaction using Card on File. Standard transactions, card-present or keyed, do not include a customer selection step at the start of the sale. For these transactions, the merchant can add or edit the customer name and contact details only after the sale, from the Transaction Details screen.
