SwipeSimple Mobile - Offline Mode

SwipeSimple Offline Mode lets you keep taking payments on the mobile app when your internet connection is unreliable or unavailable, such as at an outdoor event or a remote location. This feature is available only on the SwipeSimple mobile app. It is not available on the Virtual Terminal, SwipeSimple Terminal, or Register products.

When you turn on Offline Mode, the app behaves as though it has no connection: it stores each transaction on your device to be processed later. Once you have a stable internet connection you can choose to manually settle the transactions or let the app do it automatically once it reconnects.

Offline Mode is a temporary setting that you turn on when you need it and turn off when your connection is stable again.

Important Notes

  • Transactions are stored for later processing instead of run immediately. This means the transaction could decline. We recommend collecting contact information from customers with offline mode transactions in case you need to collect alternate payment later.
  • For added security, we recommend setting a maximum transaction amount for offline transactions in Account Settings. The maximum allowed amount is $999.00
  • Offline Mode supports keyed entry or swipe only. Dip (EMV) and tap (NFC) are not available in offline mode.
  • Offline Mode limits to a maximum of 50 transactions per offline session

Poor Connectivity/Service

While the SwipeSimple app is designed to detect poor connection issues and prompt you to enable Offline mode, you can always enable Offline mode in the settings manually. Merchants may want to enable Offline Mode pre-emptively in known service issue areas to ensure that transactions do not error or fail due to intermittent network connection.

Turning on Offline Mode

You can enter Offline Mode in three ways:

  • The app prompts you to enter Offline Mode at checkout when it detects no connection.
  • The app prompts you to enter Offline Mode if a transaction fails to upload during processing.
  • Manually enabled by opening the left-hand menu and navigating to Settings > Offline Mode.

Managing pending transactions

Transactions taken in Offline Mode will be displayed in a Pending Transactions tab in the main menu. Once your mobile device has a stable connection again, you can exit offline mode and SwipeSimple will attempt to process the transactions. The results of those offline mode transactions will appear in your transaction history for review.
